Introduction and Welcome

In 1983, the first SYSTED conference (Systems and Empowerment Sciences for Lifespan Development) took place in Montreal, Canada. There were about 600 attendees at this conference from a total of 19 nations. Six further SYSTED conferences were held in different nations between 1983 and 1999, in Australia, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, the United States, and France.

Organizing relatively large international interdisciplinary conferences, like SYSTED, has proven challenging since the 1999 conference in Grenoble, France. This is undoubtedly due to the competition from events that focus primarily on one discipline and the more restricted financial resources for conference attendance. Therefore, the idea of refocusing and promoting the SYSTED concept through smaller-scale activities, either conducted independently or linked to a more regional, rather than international, event.

In 2011, Professor Tokie Anme organized the first such "reborn" SYSTED event in Japan. In keeping with previous practice, the conference was labeled "SYSTED 11" to indicate the year it was held. The SYSTED conference has been hosted in the Czech Republic, Sweden, USA, and Germany since 2011.

SYSTED provides an opportunity for the exchange of knowledge, ideas and experience related to the provision of care and services through lifespan, within an international context. By involving a variety of disciplines and promoting a holistic and systems approach to health and social services delivery, SYSTED aims to improve understanding of problems and identify potential solutions. SYSTED aims to improve understanding of issues and identify potential solutions by collaborating with a range of disciplines and promoting a holistic and systems approach to the delivery of health and social services.

The SYSTED Steering Committee is composed of professionals from Japan, the Czech Republic, Sweden, the USA, Germany, Mongolia, China, and Indonesia. As a member of the SYSTED steering committee and empowerment team, the Philanthropy Center for Children and the Elderly, Mongolia is pleased to announce that the SYSTED 23 conference will be held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, on August 17-20, 2023, under the broadened concept of 'Community Empowerment and Respect for Diversity', just after the COVID 19 pandemic related long pause and social distancing rules. The conference will be in hybrid mode, both physical and virtual attendance.

We hope that the SYSTED 23 conference will provide all participants with a unique opportunity to network with diverse stakeholders from around the world in order to share and learn from each other in the fields of community empowerment and lifespan development, child study, and disability and elderly care. This conference is open to everyone who wants to empower and improve the lives of others as well as their own.

We look forward to welcoming you to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, in August 2023.
